We all love to travel…anywhere, whether that is just a few hours away from home or all the way across the ocean. Here's what we do not love…the expenses. The hotel bills, the flights, the gas, the souvenirs, the food…etc. When vacation time comes and then you maybe realized you have wiped your savings, or don't have as much money as you think for the actual vacation, you think maybe you should have saved more, or you don't know how to save for a vacation. Here's a few tips on how to save for your vacations!
Designate a separate travel savings account. Open an account with your bank (savings or checking) and ensure that you don't touch it until vacation time, or until it is time to start booking things! I have one, and I deposit money each month, this way that money is going straight from my checks to the account and when I am ready to buy tickets, I already have the money saved and it doesn't make a dent in my actual account!
Pick up a side hustle and dedicate the money you make from this only to vacation. It can be something super easy, like Etsy to sell extra things you make, Door Dash, or even sell those items you don't need anymore! These are great ways to make extra income and be able to save for all the great things to do on vacation!
Find cheap tickets. This could be for anything, flights, shows, Disney, anything. Remember that you do not always have to buy on the website direct. Find discounts on other websites and buy ahead of time, but not too far in advance. This can help save you so much money, and you get the same thing as if you bought directly through the website. I can also help find you those discounts too ;)
Always give yourself a realistic time period to save for your trip. More often than not people decide last minute they want to go on a trip and then they are scrambling to find the funds to go. Make sure to plan out your vacation and give yourself time to be able to save enough money. Play it out if you saved $200 out of each check, when you would be able to afford to buy the plane tickets and still have enough time in between to be able to save for the vacation itself.
Using these tactics to save the extra money before going on a vacation can really make a difference in the trip that you are able to have. Save, save, save!
