Trips to Take Close to Home
Written By: April Bachman ~ 4/21/2021

With COVID still around and travel still up in the air…you don't have to just sit at home and not do anything, there are plenty of trips you can take within the state and stay close to home.  Check out the list of places you can make a weekend or even just a day trip!

If you are looking for a spot on the water, with a relaxing little town, and maybe even spotting some whales, Friday Harbor is the way to go!  This trip would serve better as a weekend getaway because it is close to 4 hours away from Seattle.  There are several small hotels and bed and breakfasts, you can book at for the weekend at a reasonable price.  There are a lot of activities, from strolling the harbor for the early sunrise, whale watching and getting ice cream, or even renting mopeds and riding around!  This is a great trip for the family or even a romantic getaway!

Are you looking for just a day trip?  Look no further!  The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is the way to go.  It is only a couple of hours away from Seattle, and is a beautiful drive.  Although, the parking is free, admission is required to get into the tulip farm.  There are many restaurants and stores that prepare for this time, there are special wine tastings, art shows, unique restaurant menus.  Don't miss this trip this Spring!

If you are a nature kind of person, and you like to be in the calmness around nature, then Suncadia Resort is the place for you.  This gorgeous resort is completely surrounded by the outdoors.  There are trails through the resort to take morning or even walks.  There are even outdoor heated pools as several spots through the resort.  The rooms of the resort overlook the river and the cliffs, which is just beautiful during the summer time.  This is a family friendly resort and is a great overnight or weekend getaway.

Of course, we can't forget the beautiful Seattle!  There is always a ton to go and see and do in Seattle…even on the rainy days!  The Woodland Park Zoo is always a personal favorite.  It's a great day trip and fun to take the kids with you.  During Spring time, it is always gorgeous to go and visit the Cherry blossoms blooming on the UW (University of Washington) campus, but make sure to bring your camera!  Alki Beach is a great little getaway during the sunset, and to grab some seafood from Spud's Fish & Chips or even a taco from a taco truck!  If you have kids, any museum at the Pop Culture Museum is great to take them too…even the Minecraft Museum!

Whether you are driving hours away from home, or whether you are only going to the next town over, there are many trips you can take to get out of your cabin fever!  Head out to find something fun for you and your spouse, or the entire family!
